Hougang MRT station (NE14) is the transport anchor of Linktown Residences. The station is about 140 metres from the Hougang Central site in a straight line, and the consortium's plans give the development a direct link to it. Within the decade it becomes one of the most important stations in the North-East, as the Cross Island Line arrives to make Hougang an interchange.
The North-East Line is a fully underground line running from HarbourFront in the south to Punggol in the north. Heading south-west from Hougang, trains call at Kovan, Serangoon, Woodleigh, Potong Pasir, Boon Keng, Farrer Park, Little India and Dhoby Ghaut before continuing through Clarke Quay, Chinatown and Outram Park to HarbourFront. Heading north-east, the next stops are Buangkok, Sengkang and Punggol.
That gives residents of Linktown Residences one-seat rides to Serangoon's NEX and the Circle Line interchange, to Little India and Dhoby Ghaut on the edge of Orchard, and to the Chinatown and Outram Park interchanges, with HarbourFront and Sentosa at the southern end of the line.
The Land Transport Authority is building the Cross Island Line, which will run more than 50 kilometres across the island when complete. Phase 1 covers 29 kilometres and 12 stations, from Aviation Park in the east to Bright Hill in the west, and is expected to be completed in 2030.

Hougang is one of only four interchange stations on Phase 1. When it opens, residents of Linktown Residences can travel east towards Pasir Ris and Aviation Park without heading into the city, or west towards Ang Mo Kio and Bright Hill for the North-South Line and the Thomson-East Coast Line. Journeys that today run through Serangoon or the city centre gain a cross-island alternative.
The consortium's plans for the Hougang Central site include a new Hougang bus interchange within the development, alongside the CICT mall and the town plaza. Together with the MRT link, that places train, bus and shopping journeys at the same address as the homes. Today, the nearest bus stop, opposite Block 521, is about 50 metres from the site.
